Population ageing is a global phenomenon. The process has gained greater speed in developing countries than it did in developed countries., those who face the process in a context of much lower socio-economic development.
Chile is the country that has increased life expectancy at birth the fastest in the region, becoming the country with the highest life expectancy in South America, with 79,5 years. In Chile, old age is marked by a strong ageism, that maintains systematic stereotypes, discrimination and prejudiced attitudes towards people, just because of your age.
