The students of the Biological Sciences Workshop of our Scuola, guided by Professor Hernán Freixas Anaís, participated on Thursday, October 24, 2024 in practical activities in the Laboratories of the Center for Research on Chronic Diseases (ACCDIS), at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Chile in Santiago. The workshop entitled"A look at our body", consisted of theoretical/practical activities designed to achieve the much-needed scientific literacy linked to health and nutrition issues, in addition to the correct use of drugs (Tablets) and its capacity for action in our body.
During the activity, the Hematoxylin/Eosin staining technique was used to identify specific cells of both fatty and healthy livers, highlighting the importance of adopting a healthy diet and maintaining regular physical activity. This workshop in addition to providing knowledge about the cellular structure of the liver and its multiple functions, underscored the importance of healthy lifestyle habits for multi-system well-being.
Next, the students were able to learn about and assess the history of the development of pharmacology in our country and in the world, as well as understanding the engineering behind a tablet, considering forms, colors, conformation of excipients among others.
The laboratory activities in which our students and teacher participated, were guided by ACCDIS researchers: DRA. Danica Jiménez, DRA. Ximena Calle, DRA. Karina Valdés and Dr. Sebastián Urquiza whom we thank and value for his willingness and enthusiasm to transmit his interesting knowledge.
A recognition to our students for the motivation, Responsibility and excellent level of performance, together with the call and guide of the teacher of the subject and laboratory of biological sciences Prof. Hernán Freixas Anaías.
Our thanks to Mrs. María José Olivares Méndez, ACCDIS Liaison, for its renewed commitment and management for the second consecutive year in offering our students and teacher, and through them, to our Scuola, the opportunity to participate in the renowned and prestigious laboratories of the Center for Research on Chronic Diseases of the University of Chile in Santiago.
