A comic that promotes healthy lifestyle habits, from the first basic cycle

"PichinCO: a journey towards healthy living" is the new product developed by the Explora Metropolitan Region North Associative Project of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and innovation, which addresses the issue of healthy living through a teaching and learning proposal framed in the inquiry methodology and the Explora competency model. The story is aimed at students in the 3rd and 4th year of basic education.
The comic is part of the second version of the story of "PichinCO", a shoveler duck that during the year 2023 began its journey in search of water and, through an illustrated story, The children developed scientific skills to take care of water. This year "PichinCO" embarks on another important mission: Help your friend, Zorro Chilla, who got sick due to an unhealthy life.
The story takes place in comic book format and aims to raise the effects of poor diet and sedentary lifestyle, inviting students to reflect on their own habits. In addition, seeks to develop scientific skills and attitudes that allow children to act with curiosity, design a research project to finally, Communicate the work done, motivating them to strengthen a healthy life, through good nutrition and exercise.
"This product is aligned with three fundamental axes. On the one hand, with the World Health Organization's Acceleration Plan (WHO) to stop obesity. On the other hand, with the strategy by the State, to stop the acceleration of overweight and obesity in childhood and adolescence between 2023 and 2030, since according to the latest nutritional map of JUNAEB (2023), showed that the 26th,7% of children and adolescents in Chile are overweight, on the 23rd,3% obesity and 6% severe obesity. Finally, all the content of the comic is aligned with the learning objectives of the National Curriculum of 3rd and 4th basic year", Dr.. Mario Chiong, director of Explora RM Norte and also a researcher at the Advanced Center for Chronic Diseases (ACCDiS ), institution that leads the Explora RM Norte project, through the University of Chile and its Faculty of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Who can apply for this comic?
3rd and 4th grade teachers of any discipline, who work in educational establishments in one of these communes: Cerro Navia, Hill, Conchalí, Curacaví, Huechuraba, Independencia, Lampa, The Countess, Lo Barnechea, Lo Prado, María Pinto, Padre Hurtado, Providence, Pudahuel, Quilicura, Quinta Normal, Recoleta, Renca, Tiltil, Vitacura.
What's included in the product?
The product is completely free and includes a comic for each student of the enrolled course, Two training sessions for the teacher, a follow-up session and a guide with scientific experiences for children to discover the causes and consequences of the problem posed through the comic.
